The sound of the storm

Unreal Engine 5
Solo project

The sound of the storm is a music-based bullet hell.

The game is inspired by bullet hell games like the Touhou Project and from rhythm games like osu! and guitar hero. I combined those two genres and created a game where all bullets will be fired on the beat of the music, which gives it a very unique and engaging feeling.

All the actions the enemy does, are timed to the music in the background. (Make sure to enable audio in the video to get the full experience)

Safe Haven

Unity
Team project
Time limit: 7 weeks

Safe Haven is a stealth game.

This game was made as a school project in 7 weeks time. We were not allowed to use any existing assets, so everything in the game from animations to sound to textures were made from scratch in those 7 weeks.

This was also the first time I made a game in such a large team, so I learned a lot of teamwork and collaberation from this project.

My roles and responsibilities:

  • Technical artist
  • VFX artist
  • UI programmer
  • Tools programmer
  • Quality control and bug fixing

One more round

Unity
Solo project
Game jam
Time limit: 1 week

One more round is a round based survival game, where there are increasingly more (difficult) enemies each round.

The game was made in one week and a large focus of the development of this game was learning how to make enemy AI that is easily extendable and reusable.

In the end I reached a system where I could change the complete behavior of the enemy AI without a single additional line of code. Every action an enemy could do was its own component and then there was another component that could be completely setup in the inspector that decided what action should be executed at what time.

Developed features and solved technical challenges:

  • Easily configurable enemies in the inspector
  • Round setup is completely configurable in the inspector
  • AI behavior is reusable across different enemy types
